The Blooming Commission: Josiah McElheny

Jpsiah McElheny created a room like a kaleidoscope in White Chapel Museum.
Images are projected on big screens through mirrors, which are set in different angles.

Kaleidoscope is something we can peek in.
It was interesting experience that I actually got in it.

There was a history of mirror exhibited on the room beside.
People do not doubt the figure of themselves in a mirror; however, it is not their real appearance. It was interesting.

He is working on reflection.

Thanks Leo.

Thanks.

Chocolate as..

Chocolate forms magical.
This patterns on the surface is just like a river.

Two of my classmates used wax for their models this time.
Amal made a nice white model with seeds from her kitchen.
It reminded me white chocolate.
I was about to eat.

I also used sugar on my site model as sand and stones.
It was successful.
Sugar melted into PVA glue forming marble shapes.
I added more sugar on the top a couple hours later, so it stayed on.

It's such a fun and a good experience to try out new materials for a model.

Pentagon Memorial Site

A history behind makes memorial spaces attractive.

Pentagon Memorial Site
184 benches, which are the exact number of the victims from the site there.
The shape of benches seems a wing of an aeroplane.

Night view is spectacular.

Water runs below benches.

David Hockney

We watched David Hockney's video for the current exhibition 'A Bigger Picture' in First Sight class.

He is famous for 'Hockney Style' photos, however, now he is painting.
He's back to Yorkshire, painting the great nature.
There is the thing he still do. That is when a painting is completed, he takes photos in pieces. He takes it in photoshop, adjusts the lights and creates his new image.

He is directly painting on the campus, and the painting got his character.
It is still hard to find out my original character in my works, such as drawing, painting, and model making, but I'm keep trying.

He often comes back to the site drawing different seasons.
